I agree with all your first round picks except for 2. I don’t think LA will beat Vancouver. The Sedins are pretty sick this year and their supporting cast has never been better (Samuelsson, Kesler, Burrows, Raymond). When we played them last week, they were missing their 2 best defensemen Salo and Ehrhoff, and O’Brien got hurt in the 1st period. I agree Luongo isn’t the best in big games and has struggled all year, but Quick has also been shaky this 2nd half of the season. LA has been very inconsistent this 2nd half of the season and don’t have much playoff experience. I’ll say Canucks in 6.
The other questionable pick is Boston in 6. The Bruins have had trouble scoring all season. They were actually the lowest scoring team the the entire NHL this year. The only Bruin to score 20 goals this year? Marco Sturm with 22! I don’t see much changing during the playoffs especially without Marc Savard. Plus, Ryan Miller is in goal for Buffalo and he’s been the best goalie all year (including the Olympics). I’ll say Sabres in 6.

Chris,
These are the two big question marks. I just felt that I needed some upsets in my predictions, and I dont really consider Detroit over Phoenix an upset. I wouldn’t be surprised if either LA or Boston pulls off the upset.
The Bruins might be the 2nd lowest scoring team this year…only beating Calgary. But interestingly…they were also 2nd in goals against with 200, 2nd only to New Jersey, and in front of Phoenix, Buffalo, and Chicago. Pretty surprising stat. Buffalo is another great defensive team, but they dont necessarily have the firepower either.
Should be a pretty good defensive hockey playoff series.
